Gunfire exchanged after Springfield call Friday night; suspect arrested after river chase

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Gunfire was exchanged between a suspect and police after a man fled into the Willamette River Friday night, the Springfield Police Department said.

Around 10:30 p.m. Friday, SPD officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of Janus Street for a report of a man with a gun that had just assaulted a family member.
