After mental health commitment, murder defendant now fit to proceed, judge says

About 2½ months after a judge ordered his commitment to Oregon State Hospital, a man charged with murder has been declared fit to proceed in court.

Joshua Margarito Saldivar, 38, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder after a Dec. 2, 2025, assault in downtown Eugene. Douglas Eugene Beinhauer, 42, died more than a week after police say Saldivar attacked him.
