Oregon construction hiring slows even as companies stay busy

EUGENE, Ore. — Construction projects continue across Oregon, but many companies are taking a more cautious approach to hiring than they did just a few years ago.

Henry Fields, a regional economist with the Oregon Employment Department, said construction employment has leveled off since the post-pandemic boom, even though work remains steady.

“Construction is a sector that hasn’t had a ton of new hiring,” Fields said. “There’s still a lot of work being done and still a lot of positions that need to be filled over time, but we haven’t seen tremendous employment growth in the last couple of years.”…
