EUGENE, Ore. – A woman was caught passed out behind the wheel with a drink in her hand after crashing into a pickup truck Tuesday morning, according to the Eugene Police Department.
EPD officials said that officers responded just before 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 11 to the 100 block of North Jefferson Street. When they arrived, they found 48-year-old Melisa Cleveland holding an alcoholic beverage in her hand. Her red Mazda was backed into a grey Toyota pickup with the bumpers touching.
Cleveland appeared confused and groggy when police approached. She struggled to answer simple questions and couldn’t produce a driver’s license. Officers say she had a hard time walking or standing and couldn’t complete field sobriety tests. Cleveland was arrested with a blood alcohol content of .28%, more than three times the presumed legal limit. She has a previous DUII that requires her to have an Ignition Interlock Device on her car until February 2028…
