GIBSON COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – The state has rested its case in a murder trial for an Gibson County man following a trial day that included testimony from his brother-in-law, interrogation footage and an unusual outburst of laughter from those in attendance.
Patrick Waite is accused of killing three people in his home last year, including his wife, Alma. Waite has pleaded not guilty, and continues to maintain that he acted in self-defense.
The jury was shown interrogation footage of Waite, in which he is heard telling law enforcement he “really screwed up”. In the footage, Waite claimed that Alma had told him to move out because someone was moving in. Waite told authorities he was scared for his safety after Alma told him “the boys are here to take care of you”…
