June Brings Heavy Rain, Record Tornadoes

The National Weather Service says June brought slightly cooler than normal temperatures but significantly above average rainfall across much of the Quad State region.

Temperatures averaged about one degree below normal for the month. After a cool start, a late June heat wave pushed highs into the 90s with heat index values topping 105 degrees in many locations.

Rainfall was the month’s biggest story. Many communities received between four and ten inches of rain, with some locations recording more than 16 inches. Paducah experienced its tenth wettest June on record, while Cape Girardeau and Evansville recorded their second wettest June…
