Are You a Runner? Here Are Some Races Coming Up Around Evansville and Newburgh
I know it’s hot, but sometimes the best way to enjoy the heat is to get a good sweat in while soaking up the sun at the same time. If you are like me and something on your summer bucket list is to run a 5K, there are still a few chances to make it happen around Vanderburgh and Warrick counties.
Since we’re already past the Fourth of July and halfway through this year, I skipped the races that have already happened and pulled together a list of what’s still ahead as of July 7th. Some of these are traditional 5Ks, some are run/walks, and a few are tied to community causes or local events, which makes them a little more fun if you’re not exactly trying to break any speed records. And please, let us know on our app or in the comments if I missed one.

July: Waymaker Miracles 5K Run/Walk in Newburgh
The first local race still on the calendar is the Waymaker Miracles 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, July 25, at Friedman Park in Newburgh. This one also includes a 1-mile family fun walk, a virtual option, and a kids’ dash, so it feels more like a community event than a hardcore race morning. It benefits Waymaker Miracles, which supports couples facing infertility through financial assistance, prayer, and support.
August: A couple of Evansville 5Ks are on the schedule
Once August rolls around, and believe me, it will be here sooner rather than later, there are a couple more running opportunities in the area.
First up is Steps for Sobriety 5K in Evansville on Saturday, August 8. It’s listed as a 5K with a 1-mile option, so it could be a good fit whether you want to run or just take part at a slower pace. Believe me, I am right there with you. I am not a long-distance runner, I stop and walk a lot, but that’s what’s great about these 5Ks, most of them have a chance to just walk a mile if you don’t want to run the full 3 miles. It shows up on both local race calendars and Fleet Feet’s Evansville-area listings…
