EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Traffic appears to be running smoothly at the Lloyd Expressway and Stockwell Road. Officials with the Lloyd4U project say the credit goes to the new configuration and a hybrid displaced left turn layout.
“Asking people to make a displaced left turn on one side of the intersection and a boulevard left turn for the other turning movement was, you know, a new concept,” says project spokesperson Nicole Minton. “Pulling those numbers just to see how well is the intersection working? It works really well.”
Minton says data covering a span of less than a year shows a reduction in the number of accidents as well as more efficient traffic flow and a reduction in drive time. “Anecdotally,” she says, “we can tell driving through the intersection weren’t sitting through two and three cycles of the light anymore.”
