Henderson train depot renovation on track

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Railmark Holdings and Subsidiaries reports the renovation of the Henderson train depot, also known as Union Station, is coming along nicely.

Officials note the smaller building on the property was finished last year, and within four weeks crews will be moving into the south end of the depot. The north end is also coming along well.

Officials note that they have installed four out of the six stained glass windows, which will illuminate at night. The tower is also sealed and lights up at night. The “Grand Hall” section with the 26-foot ceiling will take another year for completion, but two-thirds of the depot will be ready by August 1, starting with two weeks for some of the rooms. Officials note any missing woodwork or tile floor was custom recreated as it was in 1902, with the missing tile coming from England. Officials note the station is fully climate controlled.

Railmark Holdings and Subsidiaries note that, where possible, they have been asking the public for stories and photos of their family members with the depot. They plan to offer these and other depot restoration information on a “special website.”
