Algiers cafe partially reopens days after car plows through dining room

Days after a car plowed through the dining room of the Olive Branch Cafe, injuring several people and leaving behind a trail of destruction, the Algiers restaurant has partially reopened. Owner Russell Autry confirmed to WWL Louisiana that the restaurant has been open for carry-out since Saturday, three days after the crash.

New Orleans police spokesperson Barry Fletcher said, to his knowledge, those hurt in the crash have been “treated and released,” adding that the driver received a reckless operation citation.

While police did not disclose the cause of the crash, Autry has said there have been several major accidents in front of the General De Gaulle Drive restaurant. Autry said he is taking measures to keep the restaurant safe.

“We will install bollards on the perimeter of the property to prevent vehicles from hitting the building,” Autry said…
