Northeast Ohio officers kick off annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — In communities across Ohio, first responders and law enforcement officers are holding a different title this week: “Guardians of the Flame.”

They are hitting the pavement for Special Olympics Ohio, carrying the “Flame of Hope” from the four corners of the state to Columbus — culminating in the opening ceremony of Special Olympics Ohio’s State Summer Games on Friday.

“We come out here, we run, walk these routes in support for the special athletes of Ohio. So our goal is to fundraise money for them in their programs throughout the state,” said Stow police officer Eldin Beganovic…
