Condemned CA inmate Richard Ramirez dies at 66 in Stockton

(FOX40.COM) — Richard R. Ramirez, a condemned inmate serving a death sentence in California, died Sunday at an outside medical facility after being transferred from the California Health Care Facility in Stockton.

Ramirez, 66, was pronounced dead at about 10:20 p.m. on May 24, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.

Corrections officials said Ramirez had been housed at the California Health Care Facility, a state prison medical facility that provides care and mental health treatment for incarcerated people with severe and long-term medical needs.

Ramirez was received into state custody from Orange County on Aug. 15, 1985, and was serving a condemned sentence for first-degree murder committed during the commission of rape and sodomy, with an enhancement for use of a firearm, according to the department…
