SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – An emotional moment for organizers of the Springfield Mutual Aid event, Mindy Nielsen and Elaina Cotney embraced as they saw the line of hundreds waiting to receive assistance at the Together Across America Mutual Aid event at Springfield’s Phelps Park.
“We estimated 50 people, and we obviously underestimated,” said Nielsen. “I mean, it’s an honor to be helping them, but it’s also painful to see how many people are hurting right now.”
“We were hoping to leave here empty-handed, and it looks like we’re going to,” said Cotney. “We had no clue that the community was in need like this. Like it’s so sad, but also exciting to see everybody and that we’re able to help people.”…
