ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – After decades since it was first announced, construction on the North Domingo Baca Aquatic Center in northeast Albuquerque is making progress, but the project has been slow-going. The city councilor spearheading the project explained why and how the price tag ballooned to almost four times the original cost.

Near Paseo del Norte and Wyoming Boulevard, construction continues on a project neighbors have waited more than two decades for. The North Domingo Baca Aquatic Center was first announced in 2005, with promises to bring a 60-meter indoor competition pool, a diving well, and a separate indoor pool for therapy.
“It will have locker rooms, it will have retail area for swim gear, it’s going to have some concession areas, but then outside it’s going to have a recreation pool that’s going to be really utilized I imagine by a lot of younger families so that their families can come and use the slides and the splashing features,” said Albuquerque City Councilor Brooke Bassan, District 4…
