AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — Union workers with the Akron Metro Regional Transit Authority warned Tuesday that a potential strike could shut down public transportation in the city as contract negotiations continue to stall.
Members of Transportation Workers Local 1 addressed the Akron Metro board during a packed meeting, saying employees have gone nearly three years without a pay raise and have worked without a contract since the previous labor agreement expired in June 2024.

Union leaders said more than 300 members — including bus operators, mechanics and clerks — are seeking fair wages and a new contract after helping Akron Metro achieve record ridership and national recognition last year.
