Steelton announces opening of Community Fridge

STEELTON, Pa. — The Borough of Steelton announced on Tuesday that its Community Fridge is now open and fully stocked.

Through a partnership with Penn State Health, the refrigerator, located on the second floor of the Frederick Douglas Municipal Building, aims to fight food insecurity and promote healthy eating in the borough by providing fresh and nutritious food to residents during regular municipal building business hours, no questions asked.

The refrigerator includes food from the Mohn Street Park Community Garden. The following foods are currently in the Community Fridge:

  • Cheese
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Lettuce
  • Cucumbers
  • Tomatoes
  • Broccoli
  • Carrots
  • Peppers
  • Grapes
  • Oranges
  • Lemons
  • Bananas
  • Berries
  • Cherries

Steelton officials ask residents to sign out items they take from the refrigerator. Residents are encouraged to take only what they plan to eat to minimize waste, and those only 18 and older can access the Community Fridge. Anyone under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian…
