Man convicted in fatal 2019 crash in North Port gets 15 years

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A North Port man found guilty of DUI and manslaughter in a fatal crash was sentenced to at least 15 years in prison. David Flick was the man killed in the crash while riding with his seatbelt on in the backseat of an uber with his family.

A judge ruling Mark Barcia, 47, was at fault in the fatal crash on New Year’s Eve 2019. A jury convicting Barcia of the crime on April 9, 2026, more than six years after the accident.

Tuesday afternoon, Barcia was sentenced to 15 years in prison for vehicular manslaughter (four years minimum) a lifetime suspension of his driver’s license, and a $5,000 fine. He also received three years in prison for DUI with personal injury, two years probation, and a $2,000 fine. Finally, facing two counts of DUI with damage to property, he was sentenced to one year of probation for each count…
