Former employee sues Drury University for alleged retaliation

A former employee has filed a lawsuit against Drury University alleging he was fired in retaliation for reporting his supervisor’s discriminatory and inappropriate behavior.

Lloyd Marshall is suing the university and Alex Riddle, Drury’s executive director of facilities, for retaliation. Marshall worked at Drury, under Riddle, since August 2023 in the facilities department that performs grounds maintenance on campus.

According to the petition filed in Greene County Circuit Court, Marshall had the authority to hire entry-level grounds keepers during his employment, hiring at least six full-time employee and six student employees. The lawsuit alleges that when Marshall hired a woman in her 20s, Riddle made a remark that she should not be offered the job because she was a woman. On another occasion, the lawsuit claims that after Marshall hired a Black man, the new employee was discharged two days later with Riddle stating to Marshall that “he doesn’t represent Drury or what the Facilities [Department] should look like.”…
