TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo City Council voted Tuesday against a special use permit needed for part of a major city water infrastructure project, putting the future of two planned water towers in west Toledo into question and potentially creating delays for a project city leaders say is critical to the region’s water system.
The vote impacts a city project that would bring four new water towers and a new pump station to locations across Toledo as officials work to improve water pressure and strengthen the city’s water infrastructure.
The approximately $85 million project includes a water tower at Schneider Park on Toledo’s south side, another near Holland-Sylvania Road and West Sylvania Avenue, and two two-million-gallon towers planned for Northover Road near Silver Creek Elementary School in west Toledo…
