SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV)– A frightening new scam call is circulating across the country, in which scammers use AI-generated voices to sound just like you.
Most of the calls are trying to trick you into believing someone in your life is in danger and needs money sent to them immediately. Brenda Brookins, a mother, almost fell for this scam.
Brenda said she gets a routine call from her son every day after he’s done with work around 1:30 to 1:45 in the afternoon. One day, when her phone rang around that time, she noticed it wasn’t his number. Brenda still wanted to answer to see who it was.
“I picked up the phone, and I said ‘hello,’ and he’s like ‘Mom? Mom?’ And it was his voice!” she explained…
