Thunderstorms and heavy rain possible today

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – There will be an increasing chance of thunderstorms this morning, with the heaviest rain likely to fall during the mid to late morning. The on-and-off rain will continue through the weekend, with drier weather returning next week.

Scattered storms will be moving out of South Texas early in the day. These scattered to widespread storms will be weakening as they move into the ArkLaTex, but all areas will have a high chance for rain before noon. Severe weather isn’t expected, but a damaging wind gust can’t be completely ruled out. Heavy rain and frequent lightning will be the main storm hazards today.

Clouds lingering behind the morning rain will hold our high temperatures in the low 80s this afternoon. Recevelopment of showers and thunderstorms can’t be ruled out between 3 p.m. and sunset, but most areas will be dry after the morning round pushes thorugh. A few instances of flooded roads will be possible where rainfall accumulations exceed 2 inches, but most areas will see an inch of rain or less.

Drier air will work into the pattern tomorrow, but we will maintain a chance of isolated thunderstorms each day through the weekend. Highs will remain in the 80s each day. A cold front will roll through early next week, allowing us to dry out and eventually heat up as we move thorugh the first week of June.
