ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Anchorage Health Department is proposing an update to childcare regulations in Anchorage, hoping to decrease the regulatory burden on providers, and increase childcare availability.
The Anchorage Assembly took up the topic at its meeting on Tuesday and continued public hearing to June 23. Anchorage Health Department Director Kimberly Rash said in an interview that this is the second round of changes following similar alterations to childcare regulations following a “first round” in 2025 aimed at solving Anchorage’s shortage of childcare options.
“If there’s any way that we can be a part of those solutions, that’s what this code, or ordinance change is trying to do,” Rash said. “It’s trying to fit into those slots of how can we be a better partner within the community of making those changes? The demand will always be there.”…
