PORTAGE, Mich. — A public health advisory was issued Wednesday for Austin Lake in Portage.
According to the Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department, the advisory is due to a suspected harmful algal bloom, or HAB.
Sampling performed Wednesday came back positive for microcystin, which is a variety of cyanobacteria that can produce toxins, according to county health officials. These toxins can be harmful humans and pets if they are exposed to the contaminated water.
