Horry County to begin aerial mosquito spraying amid rising disease risk

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) — Horry County Mosquito Control says stagnant, dirty water left behind by the drought is creating the perfect breeding ground for disease-carrying mosquitoes.

Horry County Mosquito Control has been spraying targeted areas by truck. Starting June 1, the county will kick off aerial spraying in areas with the highest mosquito activity.

“We’re more worried, typically in a drought toward the end of it you’ll start seeing more cases of West Nile, Triple E, because you have a lot more stagnant water, dirty water, and that’s what flood plain, dirty water mosquitoes like the best,” said James Brock, Horry County Mosquito Control program manager…
