San Antonio appeals court tosses lawsuit over police raids on eight-liner gaming parlors

A San Antonio appeals court has thrown out a lawsuit over repeated police raids on eight-liner gaming rooms, ruling the city, the San Antonio Police Department and two vice detectives are immune from claims alleging unlawful seizures, property destruction and business interference.

In a Wednesday opinion, the 4th Court of Appeals reversed a Bexar County District Court judge’s decision allowing the suit to proceed and dismissed the remaining claims against the city and detectives Joe Vidal and Daniel Moynihan.

The case stems from 10 raids allegedly conducted at gaming rooms with machines that mimic traditional slot machines and were tied to South Carolina businessman Jimmy Martin and his companies, GGL Vendor Leasing LLC and JLM Games Inc., between 2016 and 2022…
