SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – Calera Police are sounding the alarm about a growing trend, and say two events may already be planned for this weekend.

Calera Police Chief David Hyche says his department received a tip about two “teen takeover” events planned for this weekend; one in Shelby County, and another whose location is still being determined.

The warning comes as school lets out for the summer.

What Is a “Teen Takeover”?

Teen takeovers are large, unsanctioned gatherings organized and promoted, often using AI-generated flyers on social media.

They can involve:

  • Alcohol
  • Drugs
  • Guns
