Rowhouses could be coming to a Syracuse neighborhood in need of more homeowners

Syracuse, N.Y. — A patch of vacant lots just beyond the edge of the $1 billion East Adams Neighborhood Transformation Plan map could bring a missing piece to the area’s housing puzzle: homeownership.

The Greater Syracuse Land Bank is teaming up with nonprofit neighborhood advocacy group Blueprint 15 to develop 16 owner-occupied rowhouses on vacant land at the corner of South State and Burt Streets.

The land bank has acquired 10 lots at the corner over several years, mostly tax-foreclosed sites transferred from the city of Syracuse. It now has a 1.3-acre site assembled with about 400 feet of frontage on South State Street across from Syracuse Housing Authority’s Almus Olver Tower, which is itself undergoing a $107 million renovation…
