Corrales feels impact of statewide drought emergency

CORRALES — It’s no secret that the area is in a drought. Officially, as of May 26, the Corrales Village Council declared a state of emergency, prohibiting fireworks and fires of any kind.

This declaration follows New Mexico’s state of emergency, noting that 94% of the state is experiencing the impact of the drought.

“On the basis of the foregoing information and other information available to the Governing Body, the Governing Body finds that the fire danger throughout the Village, including but not limited to the Corrales Bosque Preserve and the agricultural lands of the Village, is presently severe, and that those conditions are not likely to change significantly over the short term,” the agenda item reads.

The state notes that water reserves are the lowest ever recorded this year. The Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District shut down pumps in the village recently due to low to no river levels…
