[1] APD respond after family says officers were too aggressive in fatal shooting – The family of a man killed by APD is speaking out, saying officers were too aggressive in their response. APD is pushing back against those claims, providing the video of what happened that night. Thursday night, APD released body camera video, showing the moment when the first gunshot rang out. They said that the shot came from Jose Armas, prompting the officers to duck for cover. Police said Armas later fired several more rounds, and two officers returned fire, hitting and killing him. Armas’ family said that Armas was going through a mental health crisis.
[2] New Mexico’s governor pushes for earlier Democratic presidential primary – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is pushing for the state to play a larger role in future presidential elections by moving its primary earlier on the national calendar. Supporters of the proposal say an earlier primary would give New Mexico voters a stronger voice in the presidential selection process and bring greater national attention to issues important to the state. The proposal would only affect Democratic presidential primaries at this stage.
[3] Eastern storms then warmer and drier weather – A few spotty storms will redevelop Friday afternoon across eastern New Mexico, with a couple near the Texas state line capable of turning strong to severe. At the same time, breezy southwest winds will ramp back up across western New Mexico, with gusts over 35 mph. Storms will push east out of New Mexico Friday evening while winds gradually ease overnight. Quieter and drier weather takes over this weekend.
