But, the downtown staple has long been a favorite amongst Iron City locals, drawing large crowds on early mornings for its inventive flavors and seasonal specialties.
On any given morning, you can find locals lining up and down the street to get a taste of Last Call Baking Co.’s weekly (and weekend) specials. Tucked in a quiet corner on 25th Street, the micro bakery has something for every flavor palate, ranging from reimagined nostalgic treats and savory, flaky pastries to classic baked goods such as croissants, morning buns, biscuits, blondies and more.
In 2024, founder and former pastry chef Chanah Willis was nominated for a James Beard award, a finalist for “Emerging Chef.” In 2025, Willis sold the beloved bakery to fellow Birmingham business owner and June Coffee founder, Jimmy Truong.
“Here, the croissant dough is expertly crafted using a meticulous three-day fermentation and lamination process, and the famous olive oil cake has become a firm customer favorite.”
