STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Enrollment in public schools across New York City is dropping, but it’s falling at a much slower rate on Staten Island, according to an analysis of city education data.
A review by the Advance/SILive.com of numbers compiled by the city education department’s Office of District Planning, showed that citywide enrollment in grades K-12 was 8.6% lower in the 2024-2025 school year, compared to the 2019-2020 school year.
That percentage is much lower for the public elementary, middle and high schools on Staten Island. The borough lost more than 57,800 Staten Island students in the five-year span — a 5% decline, according to the data…
