A father is accused of leaving his infant daughter in a water-filled bathtub while he was in another room scrolling through his phone

A Kentucky father is facing charges after leaving his baby daughter unattended in a bathtub while he was using his phone in another room.

Incident Details

Covington police were called on Tuesday, May 26, to an apartment after a report of an infant not breathing. A baby girl was found unresponsive after being left in a bathtub filled with water for about five minutes.

Authorities say 20-year-old Seffan Mederious, the child’s father, told police he was scrolling on his phone in another room. When he returned, he discovered his daughter floating in the water.

Emergency Response

Mederious reportedly went to the home of a relative, who called 911. The infant was rushed to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where she is expected to make a full recovery.

Allegations and Charges

Rob Sanders, Kenton County’s commonwealth attorney, said Mederious fled the scene after the incident. “He didn’t stick around to help police and firefighters, and he didn’t respond to the hospital to see how the baby was doing. He felt it more important to run away from the scene,” Sanders said…
