Future Division I pole vaulter caps prep career with second state title

HAMILTON, MI – After establishing herself as one of the best pole vaulters in Michigan high school track and field history, Evie Mathis ended her prep career atop the podium.

The Wayland senior and University of Alabama Birmingham commit captured her second consecutive pole vault state championship by clearing 12 feet, 3 inches during Saturday’s Division 2 finals at Hamilton High School, and while that height fell short of her goal, being able to put together a full season and go out as a winner felt like a big accomplishment on its own.
