Coastal flooding is a recurring issue along the Texas coast, and Rockport is one of several communities participating in a research initiative aimed at tracking floodwaters to improve long-term resilience planning and provide Rockport and Aransas County officials with better information.
In Cove Harbor and Little Bay, water-level sensors help researchers with Texas Sea Grant and the Conrad Blucher Institute at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi collect real-time data. The goal is to help local governments better predict and prepare for coastal flooding events.
“It’s an early warning kind of thing for them to barricade the roads and notify first responders,” said April Taylor, a coastal resilience specialist with Texas Sea Grant and one of the project leaders. “It can also help us plan solutions and ways that we can build our communities and plan for those projects.”…
