Seat belt and motorcycle helmet usage survey beginning in Clarksville

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Be on the lookout for a traffic survey being conducted in Clarksville.

The city government said Monday that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and its contractor, Westat, began conducting a survey today along select roadways. Known as the National Occupant Protection Use Survey (NOPUS), the NHTSA program is meant to measure how often seat belts and motorcycle helmets are used throughout the U.S.

According to Westat, the survey “helps safety groups and regulators to better understand if their regulatory and outreach programs are working.” The program also helps identify sub-groups that may need more education and enforcement campaigns to increase their usage of those particular safety devices…
