UAW workers strike at American Axle plant in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. (NEWS 10) – Hundreds of United Auto Workers are striking at a Southwest Michigan auto parts factory that supplies parts to General Motors.

Nearly 1,000 UAW employees at Detroit-based American Axle’s facility in Three Rivers walked off the job early Monday morning after the company and union failed to reach a deal for a new contract.

The union says employees previously took “major concessions” — including large pay cuts — to keep American Axle afloat in 2008, and wages have never returned to those levels. Speaking at a rally outside the factory Sunday night, Fain said “time’s up” for the company…
