Proposed data center in Prichard draws mixed reactions

PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) – A proposed data center in Prichard is drawing strong reactions from residents, with many voicing concerns about water use and environmental impacts.

The City of Prichard is considering a proposed data center development from Edged Energy. City leaders say the project could bring nearly $93 million in investment and create about 20 jobs paying more than $70,000 a year.

In a Facebook post, Prichard Mayor Carletta Davis said the facility being discussed is not the same type of large-scale operations that have sparked controversy nationwide and that no decisions will be made without transparency and open communication with residents.
