Harnett County fined nearly $20K for improperly euthanizing more than 40 dogs, 5 cats: State

LILLINGTON, N.C. (WNCN) — Harnett County is facing a nearly $20,000 fine for improperly euthanizing almost 50 animals at its shelter, state officials said.

In a notice on May 29, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services said it fined Harnett County $19,150 for violations uncovered during visits to the Harnett County Animal Services Animal Shelter on March 24 and April 29.

More than half of the fine, $10,500, was due to 42 dogs being improperly euthanized by receiving injections directly into their hearts, known as intracardiac injections, according to the notice…
