A proposed coal-fired power plant in Anchorage is among four projects selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for funding under a new initiative to strengthen America’s coal fleet and improve grid reliability.
The DOE announced Wednesday, June 3rd, 2026, that the Anchorage project, along with developments in West Virginia, Puerto Rico, and Maryland, could receive a share of up to $350 million through the agency’s “Restoring Reliability: Coal Recommissioning and Modernization” program.
