Motorcyclist seriously injured in I-196 crash caused by road debris

GEORGETOWN TWP. — A multi-vehicle incident on westbound I-196 left a motorcyclist with significant injuries Thursday evening after loose cargo triggered a severe traffic backup.

Just after 6 p.m. on June 4, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motorcycle vs. car crash on westbound I-196 just west of Kenowa Avenue.

A 39-year-old man from Elkhart, Indiana, was traveling westbound and towing a rented trailer with cargo. The cargo then came off the trailer and spilled onto the highway, causing traffic to back up…
