Poarch Creek Indians push for dialogue on Baldwin, Escambia solar projects and cultural impacts

The Poarch Creek Indians’ Tribal leadership announced in a statement June 5 community engagement initiatives and encourages dialogue regarding proposed solar developments in Baldwin and Escambia counties.

According to PCI’s statement, the leadership recognizes that large-scale development projects can have lasting impacts on communities.

“As Alabama’s only federally-recognized Tribe, we have a responsibility to protect our cultural heritage while advocating for the communities where our Tribal Citizens and employees live, work, worship, own businesses, and raise families,” PCI officials said. “We are not outsiders to these conversations. We are Alabama neighbors who share the same concerns about preserving the quality of life, community character, natural resources, and cultural heritage that make this region home.”…
