SALT POINT – New York State Police Major Daniel Smith, a member of Troop K for more than 20 years, has moved from Commander of Troop K to the headquarters position of Staff Inspector of Field Command with the state police. The promotion of Smith makes him the fifth in line of command of the 5,500-member New York State Police.
Smith’s promotion led to Major Brian Ferrone’s appointment as Troop K Commander of the New York State Police. A Troop K veteran, Major Ferrone began his State Police career in Wappinger in 2005. Most recently, he served as Troop Commander of Troop T before returning to Troop K.
Major Smith began his career with the New York State Police in 2000 as a trooper assigned to Troop K, which covers Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, and Columbia counties.
