Sun, food and gratitude: JBER honors military families, service members and vets during annual picnic

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Thousands gathered at Buckner Fields on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) on Friday for the annual Military Appreciation Picnic. The annual event was hosted by the Force Support Squadron alongside the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce.

“A lot of these military members, they come to Alaska and they’re so far away from their family,” Heather Weafer, the 773rd Force Squadron Director, said. “And so, it’s one way we can all come together and show them the support they have and thanks for what they do.”

Event organizers predict that around at least 3,000 people are expected to attend the event on Friday.
