Cincinnati police captain who won job back in arbitration sues city, former police chief

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – A longtime Cincinnati police captain who won her job back through arbitration is suing the city and its former police chief, who was fired in April.

The federal lawsuit, filed Friday by an attorney representing Danita Pettis, alleges race and sex discrimination and retaliation.

Pettis, 55, worked for the Cincinnati Police Department for more than 25 years and was the agency’s highest-ranking Black female when the city fired her after then-Police Chief Theetge’s recommendation in December 2024 for dishonesty, insubordination, and rule violations, including time/overtime issues.
