Active N.J. wildfire sends smoke into Lehigh Valley, officials say

Smoke drifting into parts of the Lehigh Valley on Monday night is coming from a wildfire burning across the river in New Jersey, according to Northampton County Communications.

Officials say the smoke is tied to an active wildland fire within the training range at Joint Base McGuire‑Dix‑Lakehurst, where crews have been working to keep the flames contained.

In a statement posted about five hours earlier, base officials said wildland firefighters are using back‑fire strategies—controlled burns designed to remove fuel and prevent the main fire from spreading.
