Balloon release honors Blount High School graduate killed in crash

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Dozens of friends and family gathered at Mattie T. Blount High School to honor recent graduate Rylie McGill, who was killed in a single-vehicle crash last Tuesday.

Her mother Kristin Carroll said McGill was on her way to orientation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham when the crash occurred.

Friends and family released hundreds of balloons into the sky at 4:45 p.m., marking the time she lost her life that morning. The gathering took place in the high school parking lot, surrounding McGill’s senior parking spot she had painted on campus.

In the space, she had painted the words, “Life is too short so love the one u got.”…
