LEEDS, Ala. (WBRC) – The Leeds City Council passed a one-year moratorium on all property development approvals and permits for data center campuses.
The council voted unanimously on the ordinance Monday night. Several people clapped in support once the vote passed. One person spoke in favor of the move during public comment.
There are no data centers under development in Leeds, but within the last few weeks, some residents expressed concern that rumors were circulating about data centers eyeing the city.
City Councilor Sabrina Rose said if she could make the ban permanent, she would.
