Township near Ann Arbor denies tax capture for affordable housing project

SCIO TWP., MI — A local developer wanted to make 43 apartments in a 212-unit project affordable in Scio Township just west of Ann Arbor.

But local officials shot down a proposal to capture some of the property taxes the housing project would pay for 18 years and a promise to keep the units affordable for 25 years.

Developers of the Crossroads apartment project at the southwest corner of West Liberty and South Wagner roads already secured township site plan approval for market-rate apartments there…
