Vote gives new life to effort to save Roche de Boeuf bridge

WATERVILLE, Ohio — After years of uncertainty over the future of the Roche de Boeuf Interurban Bridge over the Maumee River in Waterville, supporters can feel more secure that the historic structure may be saved from the wrecking ball after all.

On Monday, Waterville City Council voted unanimously to assume ownership of the bridge from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) the first step in moving plans forward for a pedestrian walkway over the bridge.

The bridge was slated for complete demolition in spring 2025 after earlier attempts to save it fell through, but was given a one-year reprieve so a committee could be formed to explore alternatives. That one-year pause was further extended until Monday’s vote…
