PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The World Cup is officially here and thousands of people are coming to Southern New England.
While matches will be played at Boston Stadium, Providence is getting in on the action by opening up a World Cup FanZone.
It was approved by FIFA and will run during the entirety of the tournament — through July 19 — at Station Park.

The free event officially opened at 1 p.m. Thursday, and will feature a main stage with a Jumbotron broadcasting every game, along with food and drink vendors, live music, as well as pop-up art celebrations and other activities…
